Welcome to Lyngo

Lyngo is a children’s theatre company that has been touring the UK, Ireland and Europe since 2003. We have brought new and innovative theatre from Italy to many different venues and have had regular support and funding from the Arts Council, England.

All our shows are designed and directed by Marcello Chiarenza, an artist and theatre practitioner from Venice, and all have his very distinctive style, based on the principles of ‘object theatre’ – everyday things which are transformed on stage: feathers become flying birds, a napkin becomes a princess, open a book and there’s fire inside, look in that tin bath and Sheila the fish might squirt you with water…

Our tours have included venues such as the Lyric, Hammersmith, Polka Theatre, the Half Moon, McRoberts Arts Centre, Komedia, Citizen’s Theatre, Warwick Arts Centre, the Lowry and many more.

We also tour to non-theatre spaces through the Rural Touring Scheme and to schools

We are regulars at the Take Off festival and have appeared at the Aberdeen International Theatre Festival, the Dublin International Theatre Festival, Baboro, and Exchange for Change.

All our shows are performed by Patrick Lynch (currently appearing in CBeebies Let's Celebrate!) who has worked for companies such as Oily Cart and has more than 15 years experience in theatre.

He was short-listed for the 2007 Arts Foundation Award for outstanding work in the field of young people's theatre.

In December 2007 he directed the Oily Cart show - 'if all the world were paper' - performed initially at the Warwick Arts Centre before touring the UK.

The music that we use in every show has been written by Carlo ‘Cialdo’ Capelli, an Italian composer who has won many awards for his music for theatre and film and specialises in music for children.

Elena Marini is our co-designer - looking after costumes and props. She has worked for the IAUV of Venice University assisting Vera Marzot and in opera for 'La Fenice' assisting Sue Blane. She has also worked in film and television, with institutions like the BBC and Disney.

We would like to thank the Arts Council England for their continuing support of all our activities.
